Introduction -
Corbett National Park bestows buffs with soothing melody of humming birds, mystic roar of tigers and blowing sound of meandering rivers. It encompasses everything that provides lifelong experiences for adventurous visitors and - photographers and wildlife enthusiasts too. Corbett National Park is located in the terai region in Uttarakhand at a equivocal distance to Shivalik foothills, the lower Himalayas.
Located around 300 km from New Delhi, it is oldest National Park of the Asia and India’s first Tiger Reserve, a pioneer at preserving the prestigious natural heritage. Covering a vast area of 520 sq. km, this park is the most famous natural habitation of Indian tigers (Pantheratigris tigris).
Things apart, Corbett is more than just about nature. Situated at the junction of two distinct hilly regions – Garhwal and Kumaon, it is a rich treasure of history and cultural heritage that come from these mountain areas.
Flora -
Corbett National Park is blessed with richest environmental conditions with over 600 identified species of trees, shrubs, herbs, bamboos, grasses, climbers and ferns. The park has several flowering trees that lend colour to the park. These flowering trees too include Kachnaar (Bauhinia variegata), Semal (Bombax ceiba), Dhak (Butea monosperma), Madaar (Erythrinia indica) and Amaltas (Cassia fistula). Some species of trees have been artificially planted in habitation such ad Teak, Eucalyptus, Silver Oak etc.
Fauna -
The different habitat at Corbett includes mountains, forests and rivers, which house over 50 mammals, 580 birds, 25 reptile and numerous insect species. Undoubtedly, the jewel of the crown is Indian tiger. But, Leopards, Elephants and lesser cats such as the leopard cat, jungle cat, fishing cat also count high. The park is also beautified with chital, spotted deer, para, kakka and the barking deer. The other members of the widelife family include sloth bear, Himalayan black bear, jackal, yellow throated martem, Himalyan palm civet, Indian greymongoose, porcupine, etc.
Corbett National Park has over 580 species of migrant as well as resident birds. Some of these are the greylag, barheaded goose, duck, grepe, snipe, sandpiper, gull and wagtail. Whereas the reptiles of this area are the rare gharial, turtlesand tortoises, Indian python, viper, cobra and kingcobra.

Ramnagar :
Ramnagar is the main administrative centre for Corbett National Park and Project Tiger. It is situated on the southeastern fringes of the park. The Ramnagar makes a fishing base camp.
Lohachaur :
Located at 15 km north along the River Kosi from Ramnagar, Lohachaur is the ideal gateway for anglers with legendary Mahseer, a redoubtable battling River Carp.
Best Time to Visit -
The temperature hovers between 8°C-25°C during November-March and 15°C-38°C from April to October. The best visiting season of Corbett is from November 15 to June 15. Corbett remains closed between June 16 and November 14 due to monsoon flood that cut the fragile road links.
How to Reach -
Air : The nearest airport is Phoolbagh, Pantnagar at a distance of 50 km. Delhi is the nearest international airport at a distance of 300 km.
Rail : Ramnagar is the nearest railway station from Corbett National Park. From here, road transport options have to be availed to reach the park.
Road : There is a State Highway (Moradabad-Tehari S.H.No.4) lying on the Eastern boundary of Corbett Tiger Reserve from Ramnagar to Marchula for about 35 km.
Inside : Jeeps Safari is the most convenient way to travel within Corbett national park. Elephant ride around the park area is adventurous. Walking in some areas is permitted, but only when accompanied by a guide.
